Retinoids are potent anti-aging agents because they increase procollagen synthesis and cell differentiation, inhibit melanogenesis, decrease activity of pre-cancerous cells and reduce microcomedones (clogged pores). We use hydroxypinacolone retinoate (HPR) in our anti-aging formula. HPR is more active (as measured in DNA gene transcription and procollagen production), less irritating, and more stable than other non-prescription retinoids. In fact, an in-vitro study found that the pro-collagen synthesis of HPR was equivalent to that of prescription tretinoin (all-trans retinoic acid).2 Additionally, clinical testing found that even at 10X the concentration of other retinoids, HPR was less irritating. Further, in studies comparing various retinoid formulations, HPR outperformed other retinoids in stability measures like temperature and shelf-life.

We add squalane to our retinoid formulation, a powerful emollient that increases cell turnover, improves skin elasticity, reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and enhances the skin barrier.
